Kilimanjaro

Karibu!

In 2004 I plan to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa.  The trip should take 2 to 3 weeks and hopefully I will be joined by a group of friends.  At this stage there is a lot of planning to be done - but that's all part of the fun!

Kilimanjaro is actually a giant stratovolcano reaching an elevation of 19,335.6 ft. (5,895 m).  The best times to visit are probably December through March and July through October.

We might follow the climb with a safari on the Serengeti Plains or several days relaxing on the spice island of Zanzibar.

If we decide to be particularly ambitious we could also climb Mt. Kenya.

In the coming weeks and months I/we will decide on an itinery, an outfitter (to supply the mandatory guides and porters) and choose a route up the mountain.  The only thing I have considered so far are the phases of the moon!

Check back soon for more information.
