Kilimanjaro

Karibu!

In August 2004 I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa.  The trip took 16 days and I was joined by a group 7 of friends.  It was a fantastic trip and fulfilled my personal goal to see they glaciers before they melted.

Kilimanjaro is actually a giant stratovolcano reaching an elevation of 19,335.6 ft. (5,895 m).  The best times to visit are probably December through March and July through October.  We chose August mostly because of work considerations although it is the busiest time to travel and airfares are high.

We chose Thompson Safaris as our outfitter months and decided on the Western Breach Route.  There are a variety of routes you can choose but the Western Breach seemed the most spectacular.  The other thing we considered were the phases of the moon so that we could see Africa in a full moon.

Follow the climb some of my friends went on a safari on the Serengeti Plains.
